The German manufacturer reached a milestone this week after delivering its 500000th vehicle under the ID brand. This means Volkswagen completed its delivery target one year before the initial plan.

  • 135 000 ordered vehicles are not produced yet
  • Ten new EV models should be added to the Volkswagen family by 2026
  • The ID brand counts four production models in its current lineup.

If some car manufacturers struggle to deliver electric vehicles, Volkswagen is ahead of schedule. The first ID model (ID.3) reached its customer two years ago, in October 2020. It took 24 months only for the German manufacturer to present three more models and deliver half-million.

Imelda Labbé, Board Member for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales at Volkswagen, said. "Our focus is unchanged – we want to make Volkswagen the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility."

One of the German manufacturer's goals is to sell only electric vehicles in Europe from 2033 and to reach 70% EV sales by 2030. Volkswagen is still very optimistic about other markets, such as the US and China, where it plans to get 50% in EV sales by 2030. Also, ten new models should be launched globally by 2026, and Volkswagen wants to offer a new entry-level EV car with a price tag of under 25 000 euros.

A Constantly Evolving Formula

Customer experience is a critical element in the success of the ID brand. The German manufacturer listens carefully to what customers say about the brand and what features they want in their vehicles. Driver display, charging capacity, and battery capacity notification is among a plethora of new things Volkswagen added to its ID lineup thanks to customers' feedback.

More about the MEB platform

All of this was only possible with the MEB architecture. By the way, in case you didn't know, MEB simply stands for Modular E-Antriedbs Baukasten, which can be translated into modular-electric-drive. This platform is used by Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and many other brands in the Volkswagen Group. The MEB architecture is basically what allows Volkswagen to offer EV with such great electric vehicles. This platform provides a permanent magnet brushless motor, and this is one of the critical features of its success. The MEB platform is so good that another car manufacturer, such as Ford, is planning on using it. This proves how good this platform was from the very beginning.

The ID Brand

As of today, the Volkswagen ID brand counts four models, the ID.3, the ID.4, which is the only model currently available in Canada, the ID.5, and the ID.6, which is available only in China. Volkswagen already confirmed the upcoming ID. Buzz will be available in North America. According to many sources, the ID.1, the ID.2, and the ID.7 Tourer should sometimes be revealed 2023. Of course, Volkswagen presented many exciting concepts in the last few years, many of which were associated with the ID brand. So don't be surprised if the German manufacturer launches another ultra-futuristic model or another take on a retro model under the ID brand in the following years. The goal of Volkswagen is to reach 1.4 million units sold globally every year from 2023, which could definitely be possible at the rhythm thing are going right now.
